DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Des Moines officials are turning to residents for help in beautifying public lands throughout the city.
The Des Moines Parks and Recreation department is requesting the donation of perennial plants and other materials from personal gardens. That includes perennial flowers, bulbs, ground covers, herbs, ornamental grasses and shrubs.
Donations can be brought to the Chesterfield Community Center on Friday and Saturday. Residents are asked to label their plants, including sun requirements, height and color.
City officials say community centers, schools, shelters and others will benefit from the plants.
