PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Senator Anna Tovar of Tolleson says she will no longer run for public office.
Tovar is the Minority Leader in the state Senate. She was considering a run for the District 5 seat being vacated by Mary Rose Wilcox in the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors.
Tovar announced Thursday that she was instead taking time off from public office to focus on her family and on maintaining her good health.
Tovar, a former teacher, was appointed to the state House of Representatives in 2009 after having served on the Tolleson City Council. She was elected to a House leadership position within three years and then began her tenure in the Senate in 2013. Tovar and her husband have two children. She is a Phoenix-area native.
