FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - An American Airlines jet with 183 passengers aboard returned to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport after flames were seen in one of the Boeing 757’s two engines.
The incident began about 2 p.m. Thursday shortly after American Flight 2287 took off from DFW for Tulsa, Oklahoma. Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Lynn Lunsford says the crew declared an emergency when flames were seen in the right engine. The jet landed safely at 2:07 p.m. with no injuries and without further incident.
American spokeswoman My-Linh Bui (MYE’-lihn BOO’-wee) said only that the incident was caused by “a maintenance issue.” All passengers were rebooked onto another aircraft and arrived in Tulsa about 5:30 p.m., about three hours behind schedule.
