KANSAS CITY, Kansas (AP) - Cristian Maidana scored his first goal of the season as the Philadelphia Union broke a nine-match winless streak with a 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City in Major League Soccer on Wednesday.

Danny Cruz also scored in the 49th minute for Philadelphia, which won for the first time since a 2-1 victory over New England on March 15. Sporting missed a chance to assume the outright Eastern Conference lead.

Dom Dwyer scored in the 80th minute for Sporting, leveling the scores at 1-1, but Maidana answered in the 81st with his game-winner.

Philadelphia had to play a man down in second-half stoppage time after Corben Bone - who had entered the match only seconds earlier - was shown a red card for a serious foul on Sporting’s Jacob Peterson.
