CHICAGO (AP) - A trial is underway for a Chicagoan who authorities say killed five people on the city’s South Side during a 2008 robbery.
During opening statements Tuesday, prosecutors say Torolan Williams laughed and joked about the slayings after driving away from the home.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1sN083s ) a man who was a lookout during the robbery will testify against Williams in exchange for a 24-year prison sentence.
The slayings killed three men and two women as they sat on the floor. All five had been shot in the head.
Investigators say the now 28-year-old and another man spent more than an hour ransacking the home and tried to mislead detectives into thinking there had been a break-in.
Williams’ lawyer says he was a “smart-aleck kid” who wasn’t at the home.
