EDINBURGH, Ind. (AP) - Strong winds tore apart the metal bleachers at a high school football field as a thunderstorm swept across central Indiana.
The winds pushed about half of the main bleacher section at Edinburgh High School over onto the track around the football field. Indianapolis television stations report no one was at the field when the storm hit Tuesday evening and no one was hurt.
Johnson County emergency management director Stephanie Sichting says winds of about 50 mph were reported in the area about 25 miles south of Indianapolis. Numerous trees were blown down in the town, along with some building damage.
The National Weather Service reported other scattered damage in areas east of Edinburgh as the storm moved along.
