Nine players who were not selected in the NFL draft last weekend, including USC running back Silas Redd, have signed contracts with the Washington Redskins and will be in attendance this weekend for the team’s rookie minicamp.
In addition to Redd, the Redskins also signed four wide receivers — BYU’s Cody Hoffman, Southern’s Lee Doss, Indiana’s Kofi Hughes and Northwestern’s Rashad Lawrence — as well as UTEP tight end Kevin Perry, North Dakota State cornerback Bryan Shepherd and two nose tackles, Arkansas’ Robert Thomas and Tulane’s Chris Davenport.
Redd, a 5-foot-10, 212-pound running back, played in only six games for the Trojans in 2013 as he attempted to recover from offseason surgery on his left knee and then sustained an unspecified injury to his right knee late in the season.
He ran for 393 yards and a touchdown as a senior after rushing for 940 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior. As a sophomore at Penn State, he ran for 1,241 yards and seven touchdowns, including five consecutive games with more than 100 rushing yards to start the season.
The 6-foot-4, 223-pound Hoffman was a four-year starter at BYU who averaged 13.9 yards per reception over his career. The son of former Los Angeles Raiders and New England Patriots tight end Derrick Ramsey, Hoffman also spent time as a return specialist, primarily on kickoffs, but was hampered by numerous injuries while in college.
Thomas played in only seven games for the Razorbacks this season after breaking his left leg in a loss to South Carolina on Oct. 14 — an injury that prevented him from working out at the NFL combine in February. The 6-foot-3, 327-pound lineman played defensive tackle in Arkansas’ 4-3 defensive front and figures to remain inside with the Redskins.

Perry, listed at 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds by his college, also played two seasons for UTEP’s basketball team. He caught 29 passes for 344 yards from 2010 through 2013.
The Redskins will hold their rookie minicamp from Friday through Sunday. In addition to the eight players they drafted last weekend and the nine who signed as free agents, the team will host upwards of 60 other players for tryouts.
