ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota’s online health insurance marketplace has launched a campaign aimed at making sure young adults don’t lose coverage when they graduate from college.
MNsure CEO Scott Leitz says many graduating students will lose the health insurance they have through their schools. But the loss of coverage may make them eligible to enroll for coverage in private plans via MNsure.
Individual graduates whose annual incomes are under $22,980 and don’t have access to employer-sponsored health insurance may also be eligible for the public Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare programs.
MNsure says college graduates may be known as the “young invincibles,” but they’re the age group most likely to visit the emergency room, and without health insurance the expense of a trip to the ER can be steep.
