GALVESTON, Texas (AP) - A man arrested while driving a stolen vehicle has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for later taking a taxi to a Houston-area dealer and swiping a $30,000 truck.
A judge in Galveston on Tuesday sentenced 27-year-old Fahd Saad Tanash. Jurors last week convicted Tanash of felony theft.
Investigators say Tanash on Dec. 7, 2012, was arrested in Hitchcock in a vehicle reported stolen in Houston. He posted bond and was freed the following day, then took a cab to a dealership in Texas City and pretended to be interested in buying a vehicle.
Authorities say Tanash got the keys from a salesman, jumped into the truck, locked the doors and drove away.
The truck’s navigation system helped officers located Tanash and the vehicle in Houston.
