NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - Officials are changing the lanes on a road a week after they said New Brunswick’s fire director hit three children who were crossing the street after school.
The Home News Tribune (https://mycj.co/1v3zDbW ) reports police on Tuesday narrowed the traffic flow on Livingston Avenue to a single lane in each direction between Delavan and Baldwin streets and between Elizabeth and Loretta streets. Traffic can make turns from a center lane.
Fire Director Robert Rawls has been ticketed for careless driving and failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Authorities say Rawls was on duty and in a city-owned SUV when he struck two 14-year-old girls and a 6-year-old boy on Livingston Avenue on Tuesday. The children sustained broken bones.
