NEW YORK (AP) - The Long Island Rail Road says a freight derailment at Jamaica is delaying or canceling rush hour trains.
Three cars of a New York & Atlantic Railway train derailed and blocked a track around 3 p.m., Wednesday.
LIRR spokesman Salvatore Arena says it’ll run trains through the station’s seven other tracks.
He says that could create a bottleneck as the evening commute unfolds.
As of 3:50 p.m. the LIRR has already canceled or held several trains and posted delays of 17 to 35 minutes on others.
Jamaica Station is a major transfer point on the railroad’s main line in and out of Penn Station.
Arena advises riders to monitor the LIRR’s email and website alerts and check news reports for developments.
