WEST CHESTER, Ohio (AP) - The Internal Revenue Service is closing an office in the northern Cincinnati suburb of West Chester.

IRS spokeswoman Jennifer Jenkins in Columbus says the closing set for Thursday is part of nationwide cost-cutting measures aimed at making use of underutilized space.

She said in a recent statement that 23 IRS employees from the West Chester office will relocate to IRS offices in the John Weld Peck Federal Building in downtown Cincinnati. That’s about 20 miles from the West Chester office.

People in Butler County who need to meet in person with an IRS employee for tax assistance or information would now go to the Cincinnati office or to a Dayton office about 35 miles away.
