FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a Fort Wayne man has died in a hospital four days after being pinned underwater in a retention pond by a riding lawnmower.

Allen County deputy coroner Becky Stuttle says 26-year-old Robert Houser Jr. was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon. She says an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Indiana conservation officers say Houser was mowing grass Friday when his riding lawnmower slid down an embankment and into the pond in on Fort Wayne’s southwest side. It wasn’t clear how long he was underwater before landscaping company co-workers could pull him out and start CPR.

Conservation officers on Tuesday mistakenly put out a news release saying Houser had died while he was still in critical condition at a hospital.
