LOS ANGELES (AP) - A 25-year-old woman has been sentenced to 50 years to life in state prison for fatally shooting a teenager in a Los Angeles alley nearly three years ago.

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/1jfIHqu) Misty Marie Magallon was convicted in January of first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Richard Rodriguez in 2011. Magallon was sentenced on Tuesday.

A witness told authorities that he heard gunshots and saw Magallon running through the alley in Wilmington with a gun in her hand.

The man had also recognized a tattoo of a “W’’ on Magallon’s neck. The tattoo stood for the Westside Wilmas, the gang to which Magallon and Rodriguez belonged.

Deputy District Attorney Rebecca Brownstone praised the witness for having the “guts” to come forward and say what he saw.
