Former Giants safety Tyler Sash was arrested for public intoxication and interference with official acts early Saturday after he fled from police on a scooter and had to be shot with a Taser gun to get under control, police said.
Mr. Sash, 25, was spotted by police in Oskaloosa, Iowa, about 1:27 a.m. as he was riding his scooter the wrong way down a major road without his headlights on, a local CBS affiliate reported.
Mr. Sash reportedly took police on a brief chase while driving his scooter, then he ditched the scooter and fled on foot. He refused repeated orders to stop and at 1:56 a.m., he was shot with a Taser and taken into custody.
Mr. Sash admitted to having six drinks in an hour, but he refused a field sobriety test. Police said he had a strong smell of alcohol, and watery and bloodshot eyes.
Sash was a member of the Hawkeye football team from 2008-2010. He then played for the New York Giants from 2011-2013. He was suspended for four games in 2012 for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances, a ban he blamed on Adderall, the New York Post reported.
