NAPLES, Fla. (AP) - A female black bear and one of its cubs have died after being hit by cars in on a southwest Florida highway.

Michael Bradford tells the News-Press (https://newspr.es/1mmGbOZ ) that the 285-pound adult bear darted in front of his car Tuesday morning as he drove to work on Interstate 75. He says he saw a “flash of black bur and boom the air bags deployed.” He suffered an injury to his left hand.

The injured bear crawled into the median, where it died.

Meanwhile, another car hit a male bear cub crossing the highway. The bear joined another cub nearby and the pair made their way to a Naples neighborhood, where state wildlife officials found them.

The injured cub was euthanized Wednesday. The uninjured cub was scared away from the neighborhood.
