LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska voters are going to the polls for the primary election and making choices amid crowded races, especially in the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate and governor.

Voters like Priscilla Donovan acknowledged outside her polling place Tuesday in Lincoln that it was a difficult choice because of so many strong candidates. An important factor for her was recommendations from friends who have been following the campaigns more closely.

Donovan also says she favored candidates who “take the high road” in campaigning.

Joy Buettgenbach says one key reason she voted for Ben Sasse in the Republican Senate primary was because he met with her personally in her Lincoln home, and then followed up with a thank you card.

She says, “that personal contact is really important, because we feel so disengaged.”
