Some city workers in Monroe to get pay raise

MONROE, La. (AP) - Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo says some city employees will receive a 2 percent raise.

The News-Star reports (https://tnsne.ws/1gj1ZuM ) this is the fourth consecutive year city employees have received an increase. Mayo committed to five years of raises.

Mayor said Monday the employees will first see the raise on their May 23 checks. The raises will cost the city $274,000.

Employees with the Monroe Transit Union, Water Fund Union, Police Department and Fire Department will not receive raises because their salaries are negotiated through union contracts.

Employees with the Monroe City Court and the Monroe City Marshal also will not receive the raises because those departments have their own budgets.
