TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) - An Atlantic City man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and drug distribution charges in the heroin overdose death of a southern New Jersey man.
Ocean County prosecutors say 23-year-old Rasan McGee faces a seven-year prison term for the manslaughter count when he’s sentenced July 25. He will likely receive a concurrent four-year sentence for the drug distribution count.
McGee was charged in the April 2013 death of Steven Janson, a 26-year-old Barnegat Township resident who was found unresponsive in his car. Police found four bags used for heroin inside the vehicle.
Investigators learned that Janson had driven to Atlantic City to buy heroin the day before he died. A subsequent investigation uncovered evidence that led to McGee’s arrest.
McGee remains jailed on $250,000 cash bail pending his sentencing.
