EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Authorities released the names Tuesday of two men they believe were fatally shot by the same gunman minutes apart this week at a shopping center and home near Michigan State University.
Michael Addo, 35, was shot Monday morning at a Rite Aid store in Lansing Township a few minutes before Jordan Rogers, 27, was shot at his home in East Lansing. The suspected shooter was arrested that afternoon, but identified only as Rogers’ 34-year-old neighbor.
Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings said the man will be identified after an arraignment hearing, which hasn’t been scheduled. Additional information about the shootings also may be available at that time.
“There will be more information regarding the charges, the prosecution and the court process after we have received the documents, made a charging decision, filed a warrant and the suspect is arraigned,” Dunnings said.
Lansing Police Chief Mike Yankowski said Addo’s slaying wasn’t part of a robbery, but that investigators had not established a possible motive in the shooting.
Authorities also haven’t said what may have prompted Rogers’ shooting about six minutes later. Rogers was able to go to a neighbor’s home after being shot, but he later died at a local hospital.
The suspect was arrested about 3:15 p.m. Monday after a standoff with police at a home in East Lansing. When officers made contact with him, he immediately surrendered, according to authorities.
“There was no confrontation at the residence,” said Juli Liebler, East Lansing’s police chief.
