CINCINNATI (AP) - The San Diego Padres activated outfielder Carlos Quentin from the disabled list on Tuesday before the start of their three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds, bringing their lineup closer to full strength.

Quentin opened the season on the disabled list and missed the first 39 games with a bruised left knee. He was in the starting lineup in right field.

The Padres called up right-handed reliever Kevin Quackenbush from Triple-A El Paso. It’s his third stint with the Padres this season. He went 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA the first two times up.

Utility player Kyle Blanks was optioned to El Paso. Right-handed reliever Dale Thayer went on paternity leave. Blanks went 2 for 10 in five games. Thayer is 2-1 with a 1.45 ERA in 20 games.
