CREVE COEUR, Mo. (AP) - People who protest on a median near Monsanto’s headquarters in the St. Louis suburb of Creve Coeur can now face a misdemeanor criminal charge.

The Creve Coeur City Council on Monday voted 8-0 to pass an ordinance changing the classifications of medians, making them part of the road. The move will keep protesters away from a popular gathering place for anti-Monsanto rallies.

Council members say the law is an attempt to improve safety, but opponents say it limits freedom of speech.
