SYDNEY (AP) - Olympic medalist Geoff Huegill pleaded guilty Wednesday to possessing a prohibited drug and was given a six-month good behavior bond.
Police charged the 35-year-old Huegill and his 30-year-old wife, Sara, in possession of cocaine at a function at Sydney’s Randwick Races last month.
Outside a local court Wednesday, Huegill said “Both Sara and I take full responsibility for the consequences that we are both in, here today.” The magistrate did not record a conviction.
Huegill, a former world record-holder in the 50-meter butterfly, won a silver and a bronze at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and three titles at the world championships in 1998 and 2001.
After a two-year retirement, he returned to swimming in 2008 and won two gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
