A New Hampshire police officer responding to a domestic disturbance call at one Brentwood home was shot and killed — and then a massive explosion wrecked the residence.
Officer Stephen Arkell, 48, walked inside the home about 4 p.m. on Monday, NBC News reported. A second officer responded to the home within minutes to assist with the call, but was driven from the residence by a hail of gunfire, said Attorney General Joseph Foster at a news conference.
The home then burst into flames and exploded.
The suspected shooter, 47-year-old Michael Nolan, is thought to have died in the explosion, NBC News reported. It’s not yet clear what caused the fire.
Mr. Arkell had two teenage daughter, the Brentwood police chief said.
