SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Officials say a 12-year City of Savannah employee died after a heavy piece of piping fell on his chest during a maintenance project.

City officials say Bounpheng Sriratanakoul (SREE’-raht-an-ah-kool) was killed Monday afternoon while he was repairing a pipe at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.

Officials say the senior maintenance mechanic was pronounced dead at Memorial University Medical Center.

City officials say the Occupational Safety and Health Administration - a branch of the federal Department of Labor - was notified, as is standard protocol.
