HOUSTON (AP) - Houston’s Memorial Hermann Hospital is embarking on a $650 million expansion that will add 160 beds and bring 24 new operating rooms to its main facility in the Texas Medical Center.
The hospital says construction will begin this summer and be completed by 2018.
The expansion is meant to respond to the demand of a rapidly growing population in Houston and its surrounding suburbs.
The facility is also adding 16 emergency bays, hundreds of parking spaces and a new cafe. Six shelled floors and six shelled operating rooms will be built to allow the hospital to quickly expand in the future if necessary.
