COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Attorney General Alan Wilson says a former Greenwood County sheriff’s deputy has been indicted on a charge of taking more than $10,000 from the sheriff’s department.

Fifty-three-year-old Sandra McAllister Owens of Ware Shoals has been charged with embezzlement of more than $10,000. It was not clear if she has an attorney.

Owens is accused of taking money from the sheriff’s office between 2008 and 2013. Wilson said Owens used the money to pay for food, clothing and hotel accommodations.

She faces up to 10 years in prison if she is convicted.
