Germany and Poland’s second-stringers played to a 0-0 tie at Hamburg on Tuesday night.
Joachim Loew, Germany’s coach, began with eight newcomers and used four more as substitutes.
Because of club commitments, both teams missed top stars and only one-third of the 30 players on Loew’s preliminary World Cup roster were available. Because of Saturday’s German Cup final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, a dozen German players and Polish forward Robert Lewandowski were missing.
Poland failed to qualify for the World Cup.
