WASHINGTON (AP) - A Fort Hood soldier has died in Afghanistan as a result of a noncombat incident.

The Department of Defense on Tuesday announced the death of 33-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Deric Michael Rasmussen of Oceanside, California.

DOD officials say Rasmussen died Sunday in Mazar E Sharif, Afghanistan.

Military officials say investigators are reviewing circumstances surrounding the death. Further details were not immediately released Tuesday.

Rasmussen joined the military in 2003 and was assigned to Company C, 2nd Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade at Fort Hood. He deployed in January.
