COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) - Engine maker Cummins Inc. expects to start hiring this year at a central Indiana factory as it starts building a new diesel engine that will go into the light-duty Nissan Titan pickup truck.
Cummins CEO Tom Linebarger says production of the 5-liter V8 engine will begin late this year at the Columbus Engine Plant.
Linebarger tells The Republic (https://bit.ly/1lhEU7O ) that the initial production will be engines for vehicles such as school buses, commercial vans and small cargo haulers. He says the factory will start making engines for Nissan starting next year.
Cummins said last year when it announced the Nissan deal that it could mean adding up to 500 workers over several years.
Linebarger says the timing of adding new workers depends on the production needs of customers.
