WINOOSKI, Vt. (AP) - A police document says a 15-month-old infant whose April death was ruled a homicide died barely an hour after a Vermont Department of Children and Families caseworker visited the home to investigate a child abuse claim.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/QDXvm4) the document says the worker reported he observed bruises to Peighton Geraw’s neck as the child was sleeping in a crib.

The worker left the Winooski apartment at 1 p.m. on April 4. The police affidavit says an ambulance was called about 40 minutes later after it was discovered the baby wasn’t breathing. Geraw was declared dead at 2:06 p.m.

The document was written by Detective Peter Chapman of the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations.
