PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Some members of two unions shut out of work at the Pennsylvania Convention Center following a dispute over work rules are protesting at the Philadelphia site.
Convention center officials said the Teamsters Local 107 and Carpenters Local 8 would no longer work at the center following expiration of a deadline for agreement on work rules.
Officials who blamed former work rules for chasing larger events away from the facility are now dealing with four other unions.
The Philadelphia Inquirer (https://bit.ly/Qzz9tz ) reports that about 15 protesters Monday morning were outnumbered by uniformed and plainclothes police officers.
Under the new rules, exhibitors can build larger display booths and use tools like stepladders and screwdrivers without union help - and they won’t need a union electrician to plug in computers.
