FORT BENNING, Ga. (AP) - Teams of soldiers stationed around the world are at Fort Benning this week competing for the title of the Army’s best tank crew.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (https://bit.ly/1oImKQ7 ) the 2014 Sullivan Cup competition was starting Monday at the Army post in west Georgia. The event pits 19 teams of four soldiers against each other in challenges involving gunnery, maintenance, physical fitness and driving.

The crews are all trained to operate the Army’s 70-ton M1A1 tank. Teams stationed up north in places such as Pennsylvania, Washington state and Canada have been training at Fort Benning for the past week to get a chance to acclimate to the warmer weather.

The competition takes place over four days this week. Winners will be announced during an award ceremony Thursday.
