PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A man jailed for more than two years on charges he killed the owner of a check-cashing store during a robbery has been released from prison.
Philadelphia prosecutors dropped murder charges against Eric Locke, who was released from prison Monday.
Locke was charged with robbing and shooting 53-year-old Joel Blumer at his check-cashing store in March 2012.
Defense attorney Anthony Voci Jr. said Locke went to police to clear his name after seeing his photo on the news, saying he could prove he was 180 miles away in Williamsport that morning.
Instead, police took the word of four people who picked Locke’s photo from a lineup.
Assistant District Attorney Jude Conroy said cell phone records and a witness who drove Locke back to Philadelphia later that day support Locke’s alibi.
