ATLANTA (AP) - The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff has scheduled a regulatory conference with Duke Energy officials to discuss two apparent violations at the utility’s Brunswick nuclear plant in North Carolina.
The meeting is scheduled for Monday in Atlanta.
A statement from the NRC says the utility and the agency will discuss the safety significance of an issue which involved failure to promptly identify and correct conditions which may have impacted safety-related equipment during certain severe hurricane conditions.
The NRC said some buildings were found to contain openings that might have allowed water to enter, including one that could have affected nine of the 10 safety-related service water pumps on Unit 2.
The Brunswick plant is located about 30 miles south of Wilmington, North Carolina, near Southport.
