BOSTON (AP) - Political commentator Chris Matthews will deliver the keynote address at the Massachusetts Bar Association’s annual dinner.

Matthews, host of the political talk show “Hardball” on MSNBC, will be the main speaker at the event Thursday at the Westin Boston Waterfront. More than 1,000 lawyers and other members of the legal community are expected to attend.

Matthews has written books profiling President John F. Kennedy and the late House Speaker Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neill. His 2013 book “Tip and the Gipper: When Politics Worked,” describes the relationship between President Ronald Reagan and O’Neill during the 1980s when Matthews served as a top aide to O’Neill.

The bar association will present several awards, including legislator of the Year Award to Rep. Garrett J. Bradley, (D-Hingham) and the President’s Award to Boston Mayor Martin Walsh.
