SEATTLE (AP) - U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen has lost another labor endorsement following his support of a machinist contract vote that Boeing required to build its next generation 777 in the Puget Sound region.
The Seattle Times reports (https://bit.ly/QCtoLL) the Washington State Labor Council did not endorse Larsen over the weekend. The labor council backed a Democrat in every other congressional race, but declined to endorse anyone in the 2nd Congressional District, where Larsen is seeking re-election.
The union organization’s snub stems from Larsen’s backing of a controversial Boeing contract ratified earlier this year that replaced the union’s pension for a 401(k) plan. Larsen and other local politicians, including Gov. Jay Inslee, urged machinists to vote twice on the contract.
The move is largely symbolic as Larsen is considered a safe bet for reelection this fall.
The Washington Machinists Council and Snohomish County Labor Council also did not endorse Larsen.
