Sen. Pat Roberts can focus on his re-election bid this year, now that a state board has ruled he is a true Kansan who can be on the ballot in the Aug. 5 Republican primary.
The Associated Press reports that eight Kansas residents objected to his ballot listing because Mr. Roberts, a Republican, and his wife rent out their duplex in Dodge City and own a home in Alexandria, Va.
When in Kansas, Mr. Roberts rents a room and bathroom at an address owned by another Kansas couple.
Elections officials rejected the complaint against the senator Monday.
Mr. Roberts, who has served in the Senate since 1997, had been dogged by claims he is not a true resident, mainly from GOP primary challenger Milton Wolf.
“No other citizen would be allowed the special privilege that Pat Roberts has been granted today,” the Wolf campaign said, complaining Monday’s decision was made by an unelected board.
