CANTON, Miss. (AP) - The Housing Authority of the city of Canton has begun a program designed to help up to 45 low-income homeowners with critical home repairs.

The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas awarded the Housing Authority a $495,000 grant through its Affordable Housing Program for the effort.

The grant program is designed to assist in the development and or rehabilitation of owner-occupied and rental housing for low- to moderate-income families.

In 2012, the Housing Authority was awarded a similar grant for the same purpose. The Housing Authority says it has received more than 400 applications for the grants since then.

Once projects are selected, work under the new grant is expected to be completed by June 2015.
