JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Thousands of Alaska state employees didn’t have their checks direct-deposited into their accounts Monday, an error for which the state says Minneapolis-based US Bank is responsible.
Commissioner of Administration Curtis Thayer expressed disappointment with the company. He said US Bank will cover any banking fees employees might incur by having their pay deposited late.
US Bank spokeswoman Teri Charest blamed a processing error, which she called an “anomaly” and said the company “deeply” regrets.
Department spokesman Andy Mills said his understanding was this was the first time US Bank processed payroll as a new vendor in this capacity for the state. He said deposits were expected by Tuesday.
The department said direct deposits for about 15,000 employees had not been processed for Monday. Mills said that’s a rough estimate.
