BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - New York City developer Howard Milstein says he won’t try to buy the Buffalo Bills, but he does want to help keep the team in western New York.

Milstein, who is chairman of the New York State Thruway Authority, has been mentioned among several potential contenders to buy the National Football League team since owner Ralph Wilson’s death in March.

But on Monday, a statement issued through a spokesman says Milstein doesn’t intend to make a bid to purchase the team.

The statement says he looks forward to working with any prospective buyers to help the team stay put.

Milstein controls an undeveloped 142-acre plot of land in downtown Niagara Falls that has been mentioned as a potential site for a new Bills stadium.
