DENVER (AP) - State Senator Greg Brophy is endorsing former Rep. Bob Beauprez as the Republican party’s best potential challenger to Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper.

Brophy was one of several Republicans competing for the party’s nomination to face Hickenlooper in November. But he did not garner enough support at the party’s convention last month to make the primary ballot. Brophy endorsed Beauprez on Monday. He said the former congressman is the best prepared to win the election and successfully govern Colorado.

Beauprez is one of four Republicans competing in the primary. He is running against former Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler and former State Senator Mike Kopp.
