TORONTO (AP) - The Los Angeles Angels have recalled infielder Luis Jimenez from Triple-A Salt Lake City and placed third baseman Ian Stewart on the 15-day disabled list.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said right-hander Matt Shoemaker will be recalled from Triple-A Tuesday to start at Philadelphia. A move to open a roster spot for Shoemaker will be made before Tuesday’s game.

Shoemaker, who is will start in place of left-hander Hector Santiago, who was demoted to the bullpen last week. Santiago is 0-6 with a 5.09 ERA.

Shoemaker made three relief appearances for the Angels in April, going 0-1 with 4.05 ERA.

Stewart left Sunday’s win over the Blue Jays in the seventh inning after he was hit on the left hand by a pitch, one at bat after snapping an 0 for 24 slump with a triple. Stewart said after the game that he could not make a fist without pain, and Scioscia said Stewart was still “very sore” Monday.

Jimenez was batting .265 with eight homers and 17 RBIs in 29 games at Salt Lake City.
