JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Verizon Wireless plans to start hiring in Alaska, ahead of opening retail stores in Anchorage and Fairbanks later this year.

The company, which has begun making its entry into the state, plans to host a job fair in Fairbanks on May 19 and Anchorage on May 22.

Spokesman Scott Charlston said the company plans to open stores in both cities sometime this fall.

He could not say how many people Verizon planned to hire, noting in part that details about possible locations had not been settled yet.
