MOLINE, Ill. (AP) - A passenger rail service connecting Moline and Chicago is scheduled to be up and running in two years.
The (Moline) Dispatch reported Sunday (https://bit.ly/RzKb31) that a $16.6 million rail station in Moline is set for completion in fall 2015. State officials expect to launch the rail service in 2016.
Moline is located near the Iowa border directly west of Chicago.
Moline city administrator Lew Steinbrecher (stihn’ BREKH-ur) says ticket prices will be comparable to parking in Chicago for a day. He also says the travel time to Chicago will be about the same.
The project is being funded largely by a $10 million federal grant. The state is contributing $5 million. The city is contributing $1.6 million and has agreed to provide at 150 parking spaces for the station.
