BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Two candidates for the Idaho Supreme Court argued in a televised debate over the meaning of fairness for ordinary people.
Justice Joel Horton called challenger Breck Seiniger a personal-injury lawyer who represents special interests. Seiniger responded that he represents people who get hurt, have problems with the government, or who have property disputes.
The Idaho Press Club and League of Women Voters hosted Friday’s debate, which aired on Idaho Public Television. The Spokesman-Review reports (https://bit.ly/1jgLTMH) Idaho’s primary election is May 20.
Horton has served on the court since 2007. He says supreme court justices shouldn’t advocate or represent any particular interest besides justice.
Seiniger says he would broaden the perspective of the supreme court. He described the high court as dominated by sitting judges and lawyers from large Boise firms.
