CHICAGO (AP) - Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner’s (ROW’-nurz) donors include millionaire businessman Blair Hull, who lost a 2004 Democratic U.S. Senate primary.
Hull wrote an April check to Rauner for $5,000, but says the Winnetka venture capitalist who’s poured millions of his own money into his run doesn’t need it. Hull calls it “emotional support.”
He tells the Chicago Sun-Times (https://bit.ly/1si8DkJ ) that he likes Rauner’s term limits push. The securities trader says he also admires “wealthy people who want to serve.” He’s also donated tens of thousands toward a campaign that wants to change how Illinois determines its political boundaries.
Hull spent millions of his own money for his Senate run. Now-President Barack Obama won the seat.
Rauner is challenging Gov. Pat Quinn. The Chicago Democrat is seeking a second full term.
