BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A county commissioner running for lieutenant governor says if he’s elected, he would continue to advocate for transferring federal public lands to the states.
Idaho County Commissioner Jim Chmelik said in a televised debate Friday he would have a lot more influence as lieutenant governor than as a county commissioner.
Chmelik is facing incumbent Lt. Gov. Brad Little in the May 20 primary election. Both are Republicans.
The Spokesman-Review reports (https://bit.ly/1kZv4so) Little is a rancher and four-term state senator who’s been Idaho’s lieutenant governor since 2009. Little said if he’s re-elected, he will continue to focus on economic development.
Idaho’s lieutenant governor presides over the state senate when the legislature is in session. The lieutenant governor also fills in when the governor is out of state or incapacitated.
