TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona State University has expelled a longtime fraternity in light of recent alcohol violations.
The Arizona Republic reports (https://bit.ly/1iA3y1L) that university officials issued a letter this week to Sigma Chi, revoking the chapter’s recognition.
According to the letter, all chapter functions and operations must end June 4.
Sigma Chi President Anthony Gurule did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
ASU officials say they put the fraternity on probation in November after Tempe police were called six times to loud parties at an off-campus apartment complex occupied by members.
In the past four months, Sigma Chi allegedly caused $15,000 in property damage at an off-campus event in Mesa and possible sexual misconduct at another event in January.
Sigma Chi is the fourth fraternity to be expelled by ASU.
