NAME: Robert E. Livingston, Jr.

AGE: 57. Born July 17, 1956.

RESIDENCE: West Columbia, South Carolina.

POLTICAL AFFILIATION: Republican Party.

EDUCATION: Hampden-Sydney College, bachelor of science in chemistry; Georgia Institute of Technology, bachelor of electrical engineering and master of science in electrical engineering; University of South Carolina, master of business administration.

MILITARY SERVICE: Enlisted in the South Carolina Army National Guard in March 1978, commissioned through Palmetto Military Academy Officer Candidate School. He has held 18 separate military assignments, primarily in engineering companies and in command of infantry brigades in South Carolina and Afghanistan. He has held posts in the National Guard Bureau in Virginia, at the U.S. Central Command in Florida and four years as the current S.C. Adjutant General in Columbia, South Carolina.

MILITARY EDUCATION: U.S. Army Infantry School, Airborne School, U.S. Army War College in Pennsylvania, Master of Science in Military Studies.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Majority owner and chairman of the board for the electrical engineering firm Gregory Electric. The firm conducts commercial and industrial electrical, utility and telecommunications services with operations in nine states.

POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Running for re-election in his second run for office.

NOTABLE: As a one-star general, commanded South Carolina’s largest military deployment since World War II when he took 1,800 Guardsmen and women to serve a combat deployment in Afghanistan.

ON THE ISSUES: Livingston says he wants to complete the work he has done over the past four years, including his program to help Guardsmen and women find work. Over the past several years, the campaign has driven the Guard’s 16 percent unemployment rate down to about 3 percent by connecting employers with Guard members.

NAME: James W. Breazeale

AGE: 45. Born June 24, 1968.

RESIDES: Florence, South Carolina.

POLITICAL AFFILIATION: Republican Party.

EDUCATION: Francis Marion University in Florence, bachelor in political sciences. Federal Aviation Administration Certified Flight Instructor; FAA Airline Transport Pilot License; Liberty University master’s degree in religion and pastoral counseling.

MILITARY SERVICE: Served two years in the South Carolina National Guard with an air defense unit. Now is a lieutenant colonel with the 104th Training Division of the U.S. Army Reserve. Served two tours in Iraq in and one in Kuwait.

MILITARY EDUCATION: U.S. Army Airborne School, Air Defense Officer Basic and Advanced Courses; Combined Armed Services and Staff School; Reserve Battalion Pre-Command Course.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Flies as Boeing 737 commercial pilot.

POLITICAL EXPERIENCE: Ran for congressional office in North Carolina in 2008 and 2010, lost in both races.

NOTABLE: South Carolina probation officials report Breazeale is on probation in Florence County until September of 2015 for a conviction of “entering premises after warning” while living in Florida in 2013. The case involves one of his two ex-wives, a situation Breazeale explains as stemming from the stresses of a military marriage.

ON THE ISSUES: Breazeale promotes merging the federal Air and Army Reserves with state Air and Army National Guards to save money.
